Electroforming
Key to the production of ESI’s devices is our patented electroforming process.
Electroforming, an electroplating method, constructs freestanding parts produced from electroplated metals. Gold, or another metal, is electroplated onto a conductive mandrel. Desired device thickness is achieved by varying the current and length of time the mandrel is plated. Once the electroforming process is complete, the sacrificial mandrel is dissolved, leaving an electroformed device.
ESI’s electroforming process can produce pure, solid 24-karat gold devices (not to be confused with gold plated stainless steel). Devices have been formed from gold, platinum, nickel, and silver, with many other metal and alloy combinations possible.
