Fernando Vinuela, M.D
ESI is fortunate to have the world’s most preeminent expert in the field of endovascular intervention as a partner in developing our devices: Fernando Vinuela.
In the late 1980s, Dr. Vinuela assisted Dr. Guido Guglielmi in the development of the Guglielmi Detachable Coil (GDC).
Dr. Vinuela currently serves as Interventional Neuroradiology Director at UCLA’s Stroke Center and is a leading interventionalist in treating aneurysms with coils and other endovascular methods.
At UCLA, he developed a manufactured aneurysm, or venous pouch, in a swine model for the testing and development of the GDC.
Ben Z. Roitberg, M.D.
Dr. Roitberg's current appointments include Chief, Section of Reconstructive and Peripheral Nerve Neurosurgery, Department of Neurosurgery and Medical Director of the Neurosurgical ICU, both at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Naveed Akhtar, M.D.
Certified by the American Board of Radiology in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology, Dr. Akhtar practices as an interventional neuroradiologist at Saint Luke's Radiology Group.
After attending medical school at the University of Karachi—Dow Medical College, Dr. Akhtar earned a fellowship in neuroradiology and neurointerventional radiology at the University of Maryland Medical System.
He is a member of the Diagnostic Radiology faculty at the University of Missouri—Kansas City.
Philip L. Johnson, M.D.
Dr. Johnson currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Radiology and Director, Interventional Radiology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Johnson specilizes in minimally invasive targeted treatments for a wide variety of vascular and non-vascular diseases using image guidance.
